RHOBH: Why Dorit & PK Kemsley Keep Shaming Erika Jayne
Last week on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, PK and Dorit Kemsley had some choice words when it came to Erika Jayne. After popping some champagne for date night, the couple talked at length about how Erika’s provocative posts on social media weren't doing her any favors when it comes to the lawsuits against her soon-to-be ex-husband Tom Girardi. PK argued Erika should be more focused on the victims of Tom's crimes. While PK and Dorit may hold concern for how Erika's social media might affect her, the denouncement of the sexual nature of her Savage X Fenty ambassadorship posts reads sorely misogynistic and harks back to the notorious “panty gate" of 2017.
Gazing up a woman's skirt at liberty without alerting her, as Dorit and PK did in their early appearance on the show, and shaming that same woman for her Savage X Fenty campaign is not a good look. In a recent episode, PK said, “She doesn't help herself with all the social media posting.” Dorit and Kyle Richards didn’t necessarily disagree and took issue with Erika’s caption under a Savage Fenty Ambassador promotion that read, “Got buffoons eatin’ my p—y while I watch cartoons.” Another read, “Provocateur. You like it, admit it.” Kyle’s casual reference to her ambassadorship for “this” lingerie brand failed to show respect for the professional heights Erika has reached.
While it is rumored her contract will not be renewed, Erika wasn't an ambassador for just any lingerie brand. She worked for the world-renowned Savage X Fenty created by Rihanna. Apparently, 0vert sexuality and tiny corsets might be acceptable for Kyle or Dorit during costume parties but not in the context of scandalous lawsuits. Dorit, PK, and Kyle seem to believe Erika would be better off keeping a low and modest profile. Kyle's commentary in a separate conversation echoed Dorit and PK's sentiments. Kyle said, “She’s working, I understand that, but some other things are just provoking people to come after her even more."
PK agrees that "it’s just inappropriate at a time that this is going on.” After navigating his own lawsuits, PK has little faith that Tom was not aware of what he was doing over the last several decades, a skeptical outlook that does seem fair. Dorit made it clear that Erika could come out of this if proven innocent and build an entirely new life for herself. PK then countered saying, “Not if she's not careful of how she conducts herself. You need to send the right message and that isn’t with your legs open in stockings." PK continued, “When you portray that you don’t care, and you’re uninterested, and you’re just living your best life. Erika’s scratching the nose of the creditors.” While his second point is somewhat fair, his initial commentary reads as dismissal and discomfort with a woman who uses her sexuality as a power play in business.
Rather than shaming Erika's sexuality, PK should have advised Erika to simply keep a low profile. Erika's determination to maintain a provocative brand seems to indicate a refusal of admission of guilt and a refusal to let her ex-husband's evil doings reflect on her style or ambitions. Still, Dorit argued the Erika Jayne persona is where Erika finds strength, but that persona “needs to go away for a minute." The whole conversation reads as a bit of a witch hunt, though the two may have some very valid concerns over Erika’s best interests. Here’s hoping PK can get over Erika’s sexy posts and perhaps show her more grounded support and criticism next season on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, especially if Erika is proven innocent.
