[Athletics] NAIA Announced 2020-21 Academic Awards
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced on Wednesday the recipients of the 2020-21 NAIA Scholar Team and NAIA Scholar-Athlete awards. Doane Athletics placed 18 teams on the Scholar Team award and 142 student-athletes on the Scholar-Athlete award.
Doane's women's teams led the way as Women's Basketball and Women's Cross Country posted 3.60 cumulative grade point averages. Softball and Competitive Dance were next for the Tigers with GPAs of 3.55 and 3.53, respectively. Other programs honored were Volleyball (3.40), Women's Indoor Track & Field (3.36), Women's Soccer (3.34), Women's Tennis (3.31), Men's Indoor Track & Field (3.30), Women's Outdoor Track & Field (3.30), Men's Outdoor Track & Field (3.27), Competitive Cheer (3.23), Men's Cross Country (3.21), Men's Golf (3.19), Men's Basketball (3.15), Baseball (3.09), and Men's Soccer (3.09). The Shooting Sports/Shotgun team does not qualify for the award as the sport is not sanctioned by the NAIA, however, the team would have qualified with a 3.15 team GPA.
Student-Athletes who held junior academic standing or higher and a cumulative GPA of 3.50 were recognized. Those honored were:
