Battlefield 2042 Beta Dates Reportedly Being Delayed to October
Following news of Battlefield 2042's delay to November, industry insider Tom Henderson has reported that the beta may also be pushed back a few weeks. Henderson shared word of the Battlefield 2042 delay just hours before Electronic Arts and DICE confirmed the new November date. The recently leaked beta times were assumed to remain unaffected by the full game's release date change.
While the developer and publisher previously announced plans to host the beta in September, a specific time frame never officially made the rounds. However, listings from Italian retailer Media World suggested Battlefield 2042's early beta for pre-orders and the open beta would go live by mid-September. Such a listing has since proven inaccurate. And with the main title's nearly monthlong postponement in mind, it's possible DICE may hold off on letting players get their hands on a pre-release version of Battlefield's multiplayer-only experience.
Reputable Battlefield leaker Tom Henderson (via VG247) claims to have seen dates in an "internal system" that confirm Battlefield 2042's beta will now take place in October instead of September. Henderson relayed the news earlier today across two Twitter posts, telling fans that an early access beta will go live next month on Wednesday, October 6. Reportedly, EA and DICE intend to deploy the open beta days later on Friday, October 8. Media and content creators have yet to receive this information, Henderson added, though the revised dates should go public "in the next couple of days." The leaker's posts feature below:
As of yet, neither DICE nor EA have confirmed any of the above details; thus, the reported delay should be taken with a grain of salt. If Tom Henderson is right, official word on the matter should surface in the coming days, though a recent statement from the companies stated that updates about Battlefield 2042's open beta test will emerge "later this month."
News of the shooter's delay went live yesterday following a slew of leaks about the shift surfaced online. DICE cited the "unforeseen challenges" of producing a game amidst a global pandemic as the primary reason for the push. The extra few weeks of development time will allow DICE and its sister studios to fully deliver on their vision for the next phase of Battlefield.
Battlefield 2042 hits PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on November 19.
