Max & Zoey Reunite In Zoey's Extraordinary Christmas Movie Set Photo
A new BTS image confirms that Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist's wrap-up movie, Zoey's Extraordinary Christmas has begun filming. Austin Winsberg's musical-comedy drama series, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist, began airing on NBC in 2020. The show follows Jane Levy's titular software engineer as she develops the ability to hear people's innermost thoughts in the form of musical numbers. Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist also features Skylar Astin, Alex Newell, John Clarence Stewart, Peter Gallagher, Mary Steenburgen, Lauren Graham, Kapil Talwalkar, Andrew Leeds, and Alice Lee besides Levy, with each of the episodes in the series focusing on songs and dances that help progress the story. Both seasons of the show were quite well-received, yet NBC still canceled Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist in June 2021.
Although its home network had refused it a renewal, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist decided to shop to other networks along with Manifest, which had also suffered the same fate. While Manifest season 4 was picked up by Netflix, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist struggled to find a new abode. At one point, it looked like the show would move to Peacock, NBCUniversal's dedicated streaming service, but talks ultimately fell through. The producers, Lionsgate TV, still continued the search for another home, and finally, in September, Roku picked the show up for a 2-hour wrap-up film.
Now there is another update on the status of production for Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist's wrap-up movie. As per a BTS shot shared by actor Skylar Astin on Twitter, the cast and crew have already commenced filming. Astin's image features him hugging his co-star Levy, who is dressed in pajamas. There is no indication of how long shooting will take, or when would the movie bows on Roku. Take a look at the photo below.

As confirmed earlier, the holiday-themed wrap-up film is called Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas. It features all of the regular cast members reprising their original roles, with some recurring guests like Peter Gallagher and Bernadette Peters also appearing. When Roku commissioned the show for a two-part finale, it noted that if it's successful, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist could be picked up for more episodes. The streaming service after all has been expanding its original content library. Earlier this year, it acquired exclusive shows and movies from the defunct short-form streaming service Quibi, rebranding them as Roku Originals.
A quick start for production on Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist's wrap-up movie was only inevitable, especially considering that Roku is planning to release the film during the holiday season. Many people were upset by Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist's cancelation, and the hope is an upcoming, cheerful, spirited finale movie will give the series the sendoff it deserves. Considering the commitment of the team, it seems like Zoey's Extraordinary Christmas will deliver all its promises, hopefully earning the show a new lease of life. Still, to find out for sure, fans need to stay tuned and wait until the movie premieres.
