Doane Men's Basketball returned home for a meeting with Manhattan Christian on Tuesday evening. The Tigers used a big second half to pull away from the Thunder for a 74-44 win to improve to 4-0 on the year.
The Tigers pushed the lead into double-digits at the 10 minute mark of the first half and maintained it until halftime as they shot 44-percent from the floor while holding the Thunder to 35-percent in the half. They were able to keep Doane within striking distance behind the inside play of Jordan Marshall who had seven points at the break. Doane, on the other hand, used the combined balance of inside and outside scoring, posting 18 points in the paint and 20 on the perimeter. Anthony Laravie (SR/Omaha, Neb.) led the way through 20 minutes with 11 points.
In the second half, Doane doubled up Manhattan Christian, 36-18. The Tigers shot 52-percent from the field while holding the Thunder to 21-percent. Josiah Gardiner (SO/Milford, Neb.) scored 11 of his 13 points in the final half, pacing the interior play that outscored MCC 22-0 in the paint through the final 20 minutes.
Laravie led all scorers on the night with 17 points. Alec Oberhauser (SR/Parkersburg, Iowa) and Jaxon Harre (SR/Omaha, Neb.) chipped in with nine points apiece behind Gardiner's effort. Oberhauser nearly came away with a double-double, posting a game-high 10 rebounds. Tyler Sullivan (SR/Gretna, Neb.) finished with seven points, six rebounds and game-highs with four assists and three steals.
Doane will visit Manhattan in December for a rematch with the Thunder.
The Tigers will be at home again on Saturday when they host Kansas Wesleyan at 2 PM following the women's game with Graceland at noon.
