Penn Badgley Spoiled You Season 3's Ending In 2019 | Screen Rant
Netflix's You season 3 ended in a surprising twist that left one character dead, and it seems Penn Badgley spoiled it years ago. Unfortunately for Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), the serial killer met his match in You season 2. In a twist, the series revealed that Joe's new obsession, Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti), had murderous tendencies of her own. Love became so obsessed with Joe that she manipulated him into falling in love with her and killed to keep their relationship alive. And though Joe initially tried to kill Love after learning the grizzly truth, she was pregnant with his child, so the pair ended up moving to the suburbs for a fresh start. However, Joe immediately fell back into his old ways.
You season 3 adds several new faces to the series. In the suburbs, Joe immediately gets distracted by his new neighbor, Michaela McManus' Natalie Engler. However, her husband, Matthew Engler (Scott Speedman), may have something to say about it. Love appears to have another love interest of her own in Theo Engler (Dylan Arnold), Matthew's son. Shalita Grant also joins the series as Sherry Conrad, Love's brand new frenemy. Sherry's the resident queen bee of the Madre Linda suburbs, ruling over the social lives of the privileged elite along with her optimized husband, Cary (Travis Van Winkle).
The new season of Netflix's show ends with a shocking death, and Badgley may have spoiled it as early as 2019. In an interview (via Vanity Fair), Badgley speculated where his character and Love would end up in You season 3. According to the interview, the pair were about to become each other’s arch-nemeses. The actor said, “It's so common, in relationships, that we see the other person as an adversary." Of course, in You season 3, Joe and Love do become enemies. The pair try to kill each other in the finale, and Joe ultimately comes out on top.
Though Badgley's prediction was spot-on, the actor was just speculating at the time. He even made a point of saying that he had no idea where the series would go before making his guess. However, since actors know the characters on their shows inside and out, such speculation seems correct more often than not. For instance, Gwendoline Christie even predicted the winner of the Iron Throne in Game of Thrones years before the end of the series. So if anyone could guess the You ending correctly, it'd be Badgley.
In many ways, Badgley's prediction was inevitable. The You season 2 finale hinted that Joe and Love wouldn't have family bliss in the suburbs, with Joe immediately reverting to his old patterns. Additionally, Love and Joe are often at odds throughout the season. Joe is constantly searching for new paramours to obsess over, and Love desperately tries to hold on to the relationship the pair once had. Considering both Joe and Love have serial killer histories, perhaps it's surprising that both of them even made it to the You season 3 finale. Regardless, there was no way they were both getting out of the season alive.
