Workshop Fire Sees 24 Year Nurburgring 24 Hours Streak For ‘Foxtail’ Opel Manta Broken

Reports from Germany earlier this week placed serious doubts on whether the Kissling Motorsport Opel Manta would extend its unbroken Nurburgring 24 Hours streak to a 25th year and sadly it has now been confirmed that serious damage suffered by the 1988-vintage car in a workshop fire has led to the team’s withdrawal from the event.

The car is a Nurburgring icon, contesting hundreds of races around the ‘Ring with multiple class wins to its name, rebuilt countless times after racing miles and racing incidents have put the streak at risk, it seems, for 2022 at least, the “Foxtail’s” race is run.

Car owner Olaf Beckmann shared pictures of the damage to the car with lsr-freun.de , the fire started with the Manta’s battery as the car was being prepped for wrapping ahead of the N24.

As can be seen, the interior of the Manta has been gutted, and Herr Beckman has confirmed that the car will not race again in 2022, though he hopes that a full repair can be completed in time for the 2023 season.
