Man in wheelchair struck and killed in hit-and-run crash in North Hollywood

A man in a wheelchair died after he was struck in a hit-and-run crash in North Hollywood early Sunday, authorities said.

A dark-colored, four-door sedan was going south on Vineland Avenue at about 2:55 a.m. when it hit the pedestrian between Sherman Way and Vanowen Street , Los Angeles Police Department officials said. The driver took off, and the injured man was later pronounced dead at the scene.

He was described as a man in his 50s. His identity was not immediately released. A description of the motorist was not available Sunday morning.
