James Leow emerges as Champion for 55th Pacific Coast Amateur Championship
SGA National Squad member and Singapore’s top ranked male amateur golfer, James Leow, won the 55th Pacific Coast Amateur Championship on 23 July, Saturday.
The 2019 SEA Games Individual Gold Medalist fired sub-par rounds of 69, 67, 65 68 and achieved a spectacular 15-under 269 total at the Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Portland, Ore. “It’s been a while, I’ve been competing and my golf has been a little up-and-down, but it’s always good to play some good golf down the stretch of the week,” said Leow to the tournament’s website upon expressing his enthusiasm on clinching the win.
Leow was paired with Sam Choi of Albuquerque, New Mexico alongside Caleb Surratt of Knoxville, Tennessee, who finished in T2 position, two shots back.

Earlier this month, Leow also bagged double achievements at the Arnold Palmer Cup, winning the Cup with Team International and won the Michael Carter Award. Looking ahead, Leow will be playing in the Western Amateur and US Mid-Amateur Championship later this summer.
“This reassures me that I’ve been practising hard and I’m moving in the right direction,” said Leow. “My next event is the Western Amateur where all the top amateurs in the world are going to play, so it just reassures me that I have what it takes to compete against the best. I can win the Western Amateur, too.”
James will be representing Singapore at the upcoming Eisenhower Trophy from 31st August to 3rd September in France.
