‘I can’t stop crying’ – England Lionesses captain Leah Williamson revels in ‘proudest moment of my life’ after Euros win
ENGLAND captain Leah Williamson fought back the tears as she lifted the Euro2022 trophy alongside her teammates this evening.
The Lionesses secured their first ever European Championship title when Chloe Kelly fired home a late winner in the 111th minute of the game.
Every player revelled in the atmosphere as the final whistle sounded, with some breaking down in tears, including Williamson.
But, the Arsenal star still took the time to reflect on the record-breaking evening in a post-match interview with the BBC.
She said: “I can’t stop crying.
“We talk and we talk and we’ve finally done it. It’s the proudest moment of my life.

“I’m taking in every single second because I’ll want to relive this for a long time.”
She then went on to discuss the huge impact that the tournament is set to have on women’s football around the world, adding: “The legacy of this tournament is a change in society.
“We have brought people together, brought people to games. We want people at WSL games.
“Sorry I’m screaming but I love every single one of you and I’m so proud to be English!”

Williamson is the first England captain to lift a major trophy since Bobby Moore in 1966.
The Lionesses’ win was the perfect end to a historic tournament, where the overall attendance over the three-and-a-half weeks has more than doubled that of previous years.
Another record was broken today as a crowd of 87,192 took to Wembley – the highest attendance of a final in any UEFA competition ever.
