‘Big Brother 24’ episode 10 recap: Who won ‘The Invitation’-themed HOH comp? [UPDATING LIVE BLOG]
After a blindsided Ameerah Jones left the “Big Brother 24” house on Thursday, the remaining eligible players all went to the backyard to compete in the next Head of Household competition. The theme was “The Invitation,” Sony’s upcoming horror film, and the contestants had to search for rare red cards inside hundreds of envelopes. Only the eight people who found the red invitations would be invited to compete in the HOH comp. So how’d it all play out on Sunday night?

The 13 remaining houseguests have been split up into the following sets of “Festie Besties”: Alyssa Snider and Indiana “Indy” Santos, Brittany Hoopes and Michael Bruner, Daniel Durston and Kyle Capener, Jasmine Davis and Matthew “Turner” Turner, Nicole Layog and Taylor Hale, and Joseph Abdin, Monte Taylor and Terrance Higgins.

8:00 p.m. – “Previously on ‘Big Brother’!” In the ninth episode, Michael and Brittany used the Veto to remove themselves from the block, and then HOH Turner backdoored Ameerah and Terrance. Ameerah thought she had the support of her Po’s Pack alliance, but she was unaware of a bigger alliance in the house, the Leftovers, which sealed her elimination. But enough about last week — who will rise to power this week? Let’s go!
8:04 p.m. – When we left off with the HOH comp on Thursday night, Jasmine, Brittany and Terrance had already found a red invitation, leaving five for everyone else to find. Ameerah’s blindside left the house in chaos, but it was easy for Alyssa, Indy, Jasmine and Nicole to determine that they were the only four votes to save her. Knowing they’re on the outs and they lost a strong member of their alliance, Alyssa had a strong emotional reaction and Nicole became characteristically angry.
8:07 p.m. – Monte, Daniel and Joseph were the next three to collect a red invitation, leaving two open spots. Those spots went to non-Leftovers members Nicole and Alyssa, with Indy barely missing the cut. With the house split in two, the next round of the comp would be made up of three Leftovers members and five of the players that were just blindsided.
8:13 p.m. – For the second round, the players entered “The Invitation” house where they found three long tables. In order to win they had to earn points by sliding three blood-filled goblets down the tables, gaining points based on distance. Alyssa went first with a score of four in 16.6 seconds. Up next, Nicole passed her with a score of nine in 18.82 seconds. Next, both Joseph and Daniel came up short with scores of five and four, respectively. Monte was able to pass Nicole’s score with 11, which secured him the win after the next three failed to pass his score: Brittany with a three, Terrance with a four, and Jasmine with a five.
8:25 p.m. – Monte’s win was an exciting moment for The Leftovers, eager to keep the momentum going of their new alliance targeting strong members of the opposition. Having no clue where her place in the house now was, Nicole was on a mission of damage control and finding an understanding about the new dynamics of the house. Equally shocked, Alyssa thought she had a connection with Kyle, but he didn’t tell her about the blindside and so she no longer knew where she stood with him either.
8:28 p.m. – In a scene from earlier in the week, Monte and Joseph considered the possibility that the Bestie leftover after an eviction might get to join an existing pair and so they approached Terrance with the idea of joining them. They thought that it would pad the two of them in the event of being nominated because The Leftovers would be able to send Terrance home instead of them. Clearly the two of them are playing many steps ahead of the rest of the players in the house!
8:34 p.m. – During a particularly emotional moment, Alyssa communicated to Joseph that she wishes she was back home with her “person.” Joseph thought it was something Kyle needed to know in case it meant she has a boyfriend at home already. Kyle was surprised by the “news,” but was still willing to engage in the flirting with Alyssa. When Alyssa finally brought up the Ameerah vote with him, he apologized and told her that she’s still his “closest friend in the house.” Alyssa was still upset, knowing that if that was true then he would have told her.
8:40 p.m. – Once the rest of the house left Monte’s HOH room, The Leftovers finally got a chance to discuss their plan for the week. Right away, Kyle called Alyssa a great social player and a threat, but acknowledged that no one really wants Daniel or Nicole to stay in the house. In order to get either of them out would mean that Kyle or Taylor would have to go up as pawns along with their Besties. Taylor asked to not have to go on the block this week before other people get a taste of what it feels like.
8:47 p.m. – In order to make the best decision, Monte took some time to speak with everyone in the house. In a conversation with Alyssa, he made it seem like if she were to go on the block it would be as a pawn to ultimately backdoor Nicole and Taylor. She asked to not go up as a pawn, but said she’d respect any decision he makes. He then had a similar conversation with Indy, pitching that she and Alyssa would be capable players in the veto comp. Indy felt hurt that Monte would even use her as a pawn when he has other options in the house to consider. When he got around to talking to Nicole and Taylor (together), Monte told them that he doesn’t want to continue the trend of putting Taylor back on the block. Nicole tried to communicate that she’d play for him rather than against him if he found a way to keep her out of the nomination chairs this week. Once Nicole left, Monte made it clear that he won’t attempt to backdoor Nicole then he’s going to respect her and go after Daniel instead. He stressed that he wants his actions to back up his words and so all he needs from her is transparency about what she’s comfortable with.
8:56 p.m. – At the nomination ceremony, Monte revealed the photos of Indy and Alyssa. He told them this is an opportunity to show how big of competitors they are, but “made it clear” that they are not his true targets for the week. In the event that they stay on the block, Monte said in the diary room that Alyssa would be the one The Leftovers send home.
