Mexico tops Italy, clinches berth in Super Round

Mexico beat Italy in five innings, 14-0, and qualified for the Super Round of the VI WBSC U-12 Baseball World Cup.

Edgar Melgar and Bryan Espinoza didn't give Italy a chance and combined on a perfect game.

Mexico wasted no time, and Italian starter Tommaso Destro couldn't get out of the first inning, allowing six earned runs.

Ezequiel Rivera hit his third home run in four games in a seven-run second inning, and Mexico added one run in the third. The lineup combined for 16 hits, with six players enjoying a multi-hit game.

Italy's lineup featured two girls: Anita Bissa at second and Sabrina Bottazzi in the outfield.

Mexico (3-1) will face Venezuela (4-0) on Tuesday, while Italy (1-3) will play Chinese Taipei (3-1) -- games that will determine the final Group A standings.
