THE least reliable cars in the UK have been revealed after a study of MOT data in Britain.
The study looked at MOT data since 2020 to find the models that fail most and the car parts that most commonly cause it.
The study, conducted by the Bill Plant Driving School, found that around 40% of cars in the UK fail their first MOT.
The new research reveals the most unreliable vehicles to get on the road – with one car model returning just a 53.31% MOT pass rate.
That car was the Renault Megane, closely followed by the Fiat Punto and Renault Clio.

Between the top 10 most unreliable cars, more than 1.6 million tests were taken in total, with an average pass rate of 58.95%.
And it was the engine that has caused the most car faults in the UK across all models.

More than 500,000 searches have been carried out for this fault since 2018, which is more than any other.
Based on the same data, the brakes are second most common car fault in the UK.
More than 140,000 searches have been carried out, but that’s still considerably less than the engine in first place.

The Peugeot 108 is the model which has the highest MOT pass rate in the UK.
More than 54,000 MOT tests on the 108 have been carried out with more than 46,000 passing, which is an overall pass rate of 85.90%.
In second place was the Mini Cooper with an 84.73% pass rate and in third, the Skoda Citigo with 83.95%.
