Our Lionesses have restored pride in being female…don’t let woke wastrels destroy their victory, says Piers Morgan
AMAZING, isn’t it?
All it took to stop the insane war on women was for a bunch of women to become the most successful footballers this country has produced since 1966.
Politicians who’ve persistently refused to say what a woman is, and who believe biological males should be allowed to compete as women against women in sport despite the obvious unfairness, moved faster than greyhounds out of traps yesterday to celebrate actual women winning a major international sporting trophy.
It was only a few weeks ago that Sir Keir Starmer, leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition, said he believes some women have penises.
But yesterday, he declared the Lionesses ‘have inspired a generation of women and girls’, adding: ‘My daughter and her friends have strong, successful role models in sport because of you. The entire nation is so proud.’
Wait a minute, Sir Keir.

Before you cynically lasso your virtue-signalling political rope to the Lionesses, why was there no mention in that tweet of the trans community?
Why did you not say these superstar Lionesses have inspired a generation of women, girls… AND women with penises?
Why would you be so ‘exclusionary’ to trans people at this moment of national historical significance?
Of course, we know why; he’d have destroyed any chance he has of ever running the country because most Britons do not believe women have penises and think sex is an immutable biological fact not the arbitrary whim of whoever wants to stick their hand up and claim to be a woman.

Starmer’s female shadow cabinet ministers have been just as hypocritical.
Yvette Cooper, Labour’s shadow Home Secretary, declined to define a woman recently, saying she didn’t want to go down that ‘rabbit hole.’
But yesterday, she charged right into that rabbit hole: ‘Think on it. The last time England footballers won a major international tournament, women were still banned from playing by the FA.’
True, and that’s a shameful fact.
But think on this, Ms Cooper: the last time England footballers won a major international tournament, no politician – or anybody else for that matter – was incapable of describing a woman.

Three months ago, Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon also refused to answer the ‘what is a woman?’ question, saying: ‘I’m just not going to get into this debate at a level that’s about simplified and lurid headlines.’
Last night, the same Ms Sturgeon gleefully chased simple lurid headlines by tweeting: ‘Brilliant @lionesses and just goes to show… when you want something done… ask the women!’
Sure, unless you’re asking a woman what a woman is, right Nicola?
(Oh, and can you imagine the outrage if a male politician had made that kind of sexist quip if England’s men had won the Euros last year?)
In a farcical moment on BBC Radio 4 last week, broadcaster Emma Barnett asked former England star Anita Asante: ‘Do you like the term ‘Lionesses’? Why not ‘Lions’, why do we have to call them ‘Lionesses’?’
Aside from the fact that Lionesses do far more hunting and providing in the wild than lazy Lions, the name of the questioner’s show is Woman’s Hour.
Why do we have to call it that, Emma – why not Men’s Hour?
There are many great things about the Lionesses’ stunning triumph including the record breaking crowds and massive TV audiences which will irrevocably change the commercial viability of the women’s game.
They’ve played with dazzling skill (some of their goals in this tournament were as technically brilliant as anything elite male footballers can do), passion, confidence, and a ruthless will-to-win.
And the way they celebrated was just as entertaining – from match-winner Chloe Kelly tunelessly wailing Sweet Caroline in her pitch-side interview, to the whole squad storming their manager’s press conference to chant Football’s Coming Home and doing the same in a drunken conga with fans when they got back to their hotel.
They’re all going to be fabulously rich and famous now, as well as being showered with awards and honours – and they deserve it all.

But aside from restoring huge pride in the country and uniting us like nothing else has done since the 2012 Olympics, they’ve also restored pride in being female.
As the Queen said: ‘You have all set an example that will be an inspiration for girls and women today, and for future generations.’
The Spice Girls tweeted ‘True #GirlPower right there,’ and Mel C exclaimed: ‘Heroes, one and all!! How incredible to watch a group of young women come together, have each others backs, change peoples perceptions and touch the hearts of the whole country.’
Reality TV star Christine McGuinness gushed: ‘Women supporting women Going against the grain Doing what they love Believing in themselves Fighting for equality. And our country getting behind them shouting “Yes girls.”’
And singer Shania Twain said: ‘You know these women will have had to fight for respect from the first moment they picked up the ball – Let’s f***ing go girls!’
I couldn’t agree more with all of this.
But let’s not forget there has been a growing movement to erase the use of the word ‘girl’ at even girls’ schools, and ‘women’ in medical guidelines.
If we let the woke wastrels win, then all such gender-specific language will be eradicated, trans athletes will destroy women’s sport, women’s health and safety will be compromised, and ultimately, women will lose right when they’ve begun to win so spectacularly.
The Lionesses are the best women to ever play football for England, but none of them would get anywhere near a Premier League squad because they don’t have the strength, power or speed of top male footballers.
However, as they showed yesterday, when competing against other biological women on a fair playing field, they’re world-beaters.
That’s why sex and biology matters.
Today is a day to celebrate women and everything they represent, and to do so without fear of being branded transphobic.
Congratulations ladies!
