Only surviving son of mom who ‘killed two children’ is charged with rape
The only surviving child of Lori Vallow, a mother accused of murdering her other children, has been charged with sexual assault.
Colby Jordan Ryan was arrested in Mesa, Arizona, after his estranged wife accused him of rape. He was charged on Sunday with one count of sexual assault, according to Maricopa County Jail records.
Ryan’s wife was not identified in the police report. They are reportedly separated and do not live together.
According to court documents, Ryan came over to the victim’s house to watch TV. The two engaged in consensual kissing, but the victim verbally did not consent to intercourse.
After the incident, Ryan told his estranged wife ‘sorry’ and began to cry, a probable cause statement says.
The victim then called Ryan the next day and recorded the conversation, according to investigators. In the recorded call, Ryan allegedly confesses that he continued to have sex with her despite her begging him to stop.
Ryan is being held on bond set at $10,000 in Maricopa County Jail.
Vallow and her husband, Chad Daybell, were charged with murder and conspiracy in 2020. They also face charges for the murder of Daybell’s ex-wife, Tammy Daybell.
Vallow’s two children, Joshua Vallow and Tylee Ryan, were reported missing by their grandparents in November 2019. Joshua, 6, and Tylee, 17, were found buried in their mother’s backyard in Idaho.
Vallow and Daybell fled the state and were found in Hawaii two months later.
Vallow pleaded not guilty to the charges in April. She was previously being held in a psychiatric institute after being declared mentally unfit to stand trial.
She was cleared after being ‘restored to competency’ following her treatment at the facility earlier this year. She and Daybell will be tried jointly early next year.
In May, prosecutors announced that they would be seeking the death penalty for the pair.
