The police judge whether a car has been abandoned based on how long it has been left unattended and a few other factors.

If the vehicle has broken windows, flat tyres, or a missing number plate, this can also indicate that it’s been abandoned.

Are there different rules for different roads?

The parking rules can change depending on where you are in the UK.

Some roads in the UK have resident permit rules.

This means that only people who live on that road and have a permit to prove it, can park there.

Similarly, some housing estates or apartment blocks have designated parking spaces, reserved for their residents.
