Tottenham kick off their Champions League campaign at home against French side Marseille on Wednesday night.

It is the first time they will be taking part in Europe’s premier competition since the 2019-20 term.

And after their strong start in the Premier League where they are unbeaten after six games, Dempsey believes Antonio Conte‘s side will be a danger for anyone.

Dempsey, who scored 12 goals in 43 games for Spurs during the 2012-13 season, made his prediction on CBS Sports after Tuesday’s nights opening fixtures.

Arsenal‘s all-time top goalscorer Henry opted for Manchester City as his pick to win the Champions League, before Dempsey chipped in with his opinion.

He remarked: “I’ll do something different. I’ll pick a dark horse, I’m not biased at all but I think maybe Tottenham.”

His comments drew a laughter from his colleague Jamie Carragher, while a stunned Henry blew a raspberry as he shook his head in disbelief.

Blurting out, he quipped: “Shall I leave now? WHAT?!”

Doubling down on his opinion, Dempsey continued: “Conte’s a winner, not necessarily in the Champions League.

“[But] I think it’s them. They’re looking like they’ve gone strength to strength. They’ve done well in the transfer window.”

Presenter Kate Abdo then noticed how Henry had turned away from the ex-Fulham ace, as she commented: “You can’t even look at him now that he’s said Tottenham, you’re just looking away from him.”

To which Henry jokingly replied: “This is how I’m going to sit. That’s it, I’m out.”

Fans were left in stitches by their exchange, as one Twitter user messaged: “Tottenham and winning the CL! Great joke!”

Another said: “Once a Gunner, always a Gunner.”

A third added: “Henry is Arsenal through and through.”
