WYNDSPELLE TO CALL VICTORIA HOME IN 2023
Group 1 winning stallion Wyndspelle will call Victoria home in 2023, leaving his New Zealand home at Grangewilliam Stud to take on new opportunities at Cornwall Park Stud.
The winner of the Group 1 Captain Cook Stakes (1600m), the star miler was also placed in six New Zealand Group 1 races and ran a cracking third at Flemington in the Group 1 Cantala Stakes (1600m) in 2017.
Spokesperson for Campin Bloodstock, Chris Stear, says it was an obvious choice to send Wyndspelle to Cornwall Park Stud for 2023 given the close proximity to Melbourne and how well respected both Peter & Lisa Gordon (stud directors) are in the industry.
“We (Chris & managing owner Jennifer Campin) had spoken with studs across Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria,” Stear said.
“We really wanted that location close to Melbourne and the team are so well respected in the industry by people that I have known for many years.
“All we got was positive feedback about Cornwall Park Stud.
“Peter had mentioned that he had been looking at Wyndspelle (to stand), so there was a bit of mutual admiration there.”
After heading to Cornwall Park Stud to view the property, both Stear & Campin knew that the people & proximity was what they needed for Wyndspelle’s next stage of standing at stud.
“We both visited (Cornwall Park) and loved what we saw,” Stear said.
“The proximity to the Inglis Sales complex, Melbourne and transport for people to visit just ticked all of our boxes.
“The main thing that ticked the box was Peter’s attitude, the facilities and the reputation that this stud has.
“History at this stud goes back such a long way and we want to be part of it going forward.”
As for Victoria going forward, Stear can see the current trajectory of success that the state’s breeding is heading in, and knows that a growing broodmare band and confidence from major stud suggests long term favourable results on the ground and in the ring.
“I think that Victoria is going through a renaissance as far as stallions go with some of the country’s biggest studs calling Victoria home,” Stear said.
“Victoria has so much to offer, even to the point where travelling a horse is easy as everything is less than an hour from the airport.
“Continuing growth with the number of broodmares standing in Victoria, all I see is a bright future for the Victorian breeding industry.
“The quality of the farms, horses and people shows how much the state has to offer and we want Wyndspelle to be part of that quality.”
With his oldest progeny being yearlings, Wyndspelle has incredible upside as his progeny go through the ring, en-route to some great racetrack success.
