Matt Chapman tips: I banged in a 5-1 winner on day one of Doncaster and fancy a load more hotshots on day two
HE’s back! And by that I mean the 2021 Derby and King George hero Adayar, who returns to action at Doncaster today.
Oddly, on a day when ITV beams racing from Doncaster, Epsom and a corking Racing league card at Southwell (yes, folks, I’ll be there!) in an afternoon/evening extravaganza, Adayar is not live on the show as he takes in the three-runner Doncaster Conditions Stakes.
The Charlie Appleby Arc hope has been off the track since his Champion Stakes fifth at Ascot last October, having been fourth in the 2021 Arc to Torquator Tasso.
He faces two rivals, although Masekela is no mug, having finished fourth in this year’s Derby. That said, Adayar should be far too good.
The Group 2 May Hill for two-year-old fillies over a mile looks a cracker.
It’s hard to get away from DANCE IN THE GRASS (2.35) for the Mark and Charlie Johnston combo and William Buick.
Unbeaten in two starts at Sundown, the daughter of Cracksman stayed on really well to win at Sandown time and should relish this extra furlong.
I fancy Ferrari Queen to give the favourite a bit to think about but the Johnston filly can prove she has the bigger engine.

There’s another Group 2 next up with the Park Hill.
Group 1 winner ESHAADA (3.10) will never get a better chance to get back to winning ways for Roger Varian and Jim Crowley.
The ground should be perfect and, while there was lots of talk about her race last time, she was done no favours by the carnage at Haydock.
She then stayed on well after recovering from being hampered. This trip might be what she’s been crying out for.
ITV start off at Doncaster with a nursery handicap for juveniles over an extended six furlongs.
It is very tricky to sort out and the ground might be very testing if it lashes down in the morning.
COCO JAMBOO (1.25) has shown plenty of promise in three starts and has every chance for Andrea Atzeni and Marco Botti.
One effort at Kempton came on a slow all-weather surface and the 30,000gns-buy has an each-way shot.
I always find the Sales races for two-year-olds tough to sort out.
That said the six-furlong dash is a massive chance for COLD CASE (2.00) who is proven with juice in the ground.
It’s his York-third behind Noble Style in the Gimcrack that stands out and I liked the way the horse kept on that day. He has every chance for Karl Burke.
The last race on the box at Donny is a seven-furlong handicap.
Zainalarab keeps winning and may do so again but I’ll chance SPIRIT OF NGURU (3.45) eachway as he’s proven in the likely soft conditions.
This trip is perfect and he can bounce back to form after a couple of moderate efforts.
And after the Donny action finishes don’t forget to switch over from ITV 3 to ITV4 for the Racing League.
My team London & South are blazing a trail at the top of the table and, with just tonight and Newcastle next week to come, we are in pole position to win.
I like our chances for some big points tonight. Yes, it’s going to be a long day and an even longer night but, you know me, I just love it!
