Lewis Capaldi says he will ‘retire from public life’ if his new music flops
LEWIS CAPALDI is feeling the pressure ahead of his comeback – and has warned he will “retire from public life” altogether if the new tunes don’t perform well.
His debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent sold more than 10million copies worldwide and produced two chart-topping singles.
But the Scottish singer, who yesterday told The Sun he has been diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome, said he could see himself withdrawing from the celebrity spotlight, just like Queen’s bassist John Deacon did.
Lewis, whose first song in three years Forget Me will be released at midnight, said: “If it flops you can pursue a career as a comedian? No, I won’t. If it flops I will retire from public life. I’ll be like John Deacon in Queen. No one’s heard of that c*** in ages.
“There’s me, a man who, let’s not beat around the bush, has accumulated a wealth already, and now I’m asking you to give me more of that, please, during a cost-of-living crisis.
“I’m aware of how f***ing mental that is. But unfortunately it’s the game we play.”

His single, which he will perform at next Thursday’s National Television Awards, is the first to be released from his as-yet unannounced second album.
And it sounds as though it will be as emotional as his debut, as the first song is written about an ex who moved on.
During an Instagram Live, he said: “The new song is about a relationship I had that ended. About a year later I was looking at my ex’s Instagram and they looked very happy, on the surface at least — you know on Instagram that everyone lies.
“I was just kind of like, ‘You know what, this seems bad. I’m not happy that this person’s happy. I want them to be suffering as much as I am because I am miserable’.

“So I wrote a song about it because I was hateful and spiteful, but I’ve changed now.
“But I got over it very quickly and I’m glad that person is happy and they’ve moved on with their life and I’m still flogging music about it.”
He can joke as much as he wants, but I’m sure there are plenty of people eager to date pop millionaire Lewis.
KATE’S STARRY COSMOSS
IT was like the clocks had been turned back as Kate Moss got the old Primrose Hill set back together for a dinner in her honour.
The model held an intimate dinner in London’s Mayfair on Tuesday for the launch of her beauty and wellness brand Cosmoss.
She wore a floral see-through dress and was joined by Nineties pals including actress Sadie Frost, designer Stella McCartney, rocker Courtney Love and All Saints’ Melanie Blatt.
Bringing them into the 21st century was presenter Nick Grimshaw, socialite and former Strictly contestant Emma Weymouth and Sadie’s daughter, model Iris Law.
The trouble with having that many mates is that I bet Kate has already had to dole out thousands of pounds’ worth of freebies.
Thankfully, given she is charging £20 for teabags, £120 for “sacred mist” (whatever that is) and £95 for face cream, it shouldn’t take too long to make back that small fortune.
RYDING HIGH ON QUEEN GIG OFFER
SAM RYDER’s feet haven’t touched the ground since his breakthrough hit with Eurovision entry Space Man.
And that was quite literally the case when he got the call asking if he wanted to perform Somebody To Love with Queen during Saturday’s Taylor Hawkins tribute concert at Wembley Stadium.
It came through when Sam was flying in a Spitfire.
Speaking to incoming Radio 2 host Scott Mills at the Radio Academy Festival, the Essex-born singer revealed he was at Biggin Hill airport in Kent with TikTok trainspotter Francis Bourgeois when he was approached with the offer to celebrate the late Foo Fighters drummer.
He said: “So I am up in the air and my phone is obviously on aeroplane mode. But when I got back down, the team said, ‘You have got to take this phone call!’
“I am on the phone and my partner is filming it – she didn’t know what it was but was told to film my reaction to this call.
“I am like, ‘What is going on here?’ Basically it was the offer from Queen, some of my all-time heroes.
“The reason I picked up the guitar was Brian May and Freddie Mercury. What can I say that hasn’t already been said about Freddie?
“The guys had offered me to sing with them for the tribute concert.
“Taylor was an amazing, inspiring musician and drummer, and yeah, I pretty much cried.”
TRICKY DICKY IS TAKING MICKEY
WITH a cheery smile and frothy breakfast patter, Good Morning Britain’s Richard Arnold passes himself off as one of television’s most inoffensive personalities.
But for many months now, ITV’s supposed entertainment guru has been hoovering up our scoops each day and passing them off on air as his own.
Without so much as a mention of Bizarre or The Sun, yesterday’s show saw him pass off, as his own, our quotes from Lewis Capaldi telling how he has Tourette’s, our revelation about Rihanna’s Amazon deal, and our story about Peppa Pig’s first lesbian couple. And it’s anything but a first offence.
So today we’ve saved him even bothering to turn the pages. You can just read straight from this morning’s script below, Dicky . . .
RICHARD: Good morning viewers! Yes, it’s me, the Scoop-meister General himself, Richard Arnold, King Richard if you like, the shiniest, sparkliest, best-connected man in showbiz here to tell you all the goings on from my very own head this (check day of the week from front of The Sun) morning.
The big news from my latest shift down the tinsel mines today is that Meghan Markle is to represent the UK at Eurovision. You heard it here first, folks!
My rock ’n’ roll insiders tell me Oasis have secretly reformed and are soon to release their comeback single, a cover of Whigfield’s Saturday Night, and straight from my top Hollywood contact, this year’s Leading Actress Oscar is going to be presented to Harry Styles. Ooo, juicy.
More tomorrow. Ta ta for now (wave and grin to camera).
GIGI HADID looked like she’d got dressed in the dark with this white corset over a pink shirt.
The model was out to celebrate the launch of her own knitwear line Guest In Residence, by throwing a party in New York, which her sister Bella also attended.
She has spent three years working on the brand and is already eyeing up a position at the company for her daughter Kahi, who she had with ex-boyfriend Zayn Malik.
Gigi told Vogue: “Khai is not even two and picks out her own outfits.
“The other day she picked a dress out of the hamper. I said, ‘What are you doing, it’s dirty!’ But she wouldn’t put anything else on. She already has huge opinions of her own.
“She’ll be our first intern.”
JAGGER JOINED BY HIS QUACK SQUAD
ROLLING STONES singer Mick Jagger will be getting plenty of Satisquacktion from the latest additions to his family.
His girlfriend of eight years, former ballet dancer Melanie Hamrick, has revealed they have become the proud owners of five pet ducks.
Sharing a photo of her with one of the feathered friends, she wrote on Instagram: “Meet Waddle! Five ducks joined our animal family today.”
Last year Mick – who has just wrapped the band’s Sixty concert tour – revealed he had adopted a black cat called Nero, although neither him nor Mel have hinted at what other pets make up their “animal family”.
Given his partner is a keen rider, a few Wild Horses probably wouldn’t go amiss.
ELT’S KEEN ON COLLAB WITH HARRY
SIR ELTON JOHN is now eyeing up a collaboration with Harry Styles after just returning to the charts alongside Britney Spears.
The British music icon says he has nothing but respect for the former One Direction singer, tipping him to win big at next year’s Grammys.
Elton told Roman Kemp on Capital Breakfast: “A Harry collaboration would be amazing. As It Was was one of the great songs of this year and it should win Single of the Year at the Grammys.
“Harry has a lot of stuff from this album to promote but I would love to work with him. He’s a great guy.”
Last week Elton and Britney’s track Hold Me Closer debuted at No3 in the charts, her highest-scoring single since 2012’s Scream And Shout.
No doubt a collaboration with Harry would see him land another No1.
ROBBIE IN A SOUND U-TURN
THE BIG PINK’s Robbie Furze “lost” his socialite wife Lady Mary Charteris for a while after moving to Los Angeles a decade ago.
He has written a new song about the experience called Safe And Sound.
It will be on the group’s third album The Love That’s Ours, released on September 30.
Robbie said of the single, out today: “I moved to LA to find my record and I found it, but at a price.
“I was chased by every temptation known to man-kind. I was promised love. I was promised wealth. I was promised the world.
“Drugs, women, stardom, all the cliches hounding me and biting at my heels.

“For a while I lost my wife. I lost my family and friends and mostly, I lost my mind.
“This song, Safe And Sound, came from a moment of pure clarity when I realised I had to turn my life around.”
