If they were, they wouldn't be at Leeds. City, Liverpool or another CL wannabee would have snapped them up or held onto them.
If City sell us a kid, it's because they don't think they will make it at City, or set the world alight anywhere else. Gyabi and the rest need to be improved by the manager to a level where they fulfil the potential they exhibited when City originally gave them a pro contract - that's his job. They may never be a Foden - few are - but they may become quality first team PL players for Leeds.
That's why we buy them, the prospect that we can buy low and sell high, or develop a long-term prospect for ourselves - reasonable approach for a club in our position imo, but I understand some are more impatient.
If these lads don't make it, it's an indictment on our recruitment, youth management or both. If they don't have the talent don't buy them, if you buy them improve them.
I get worried when we appear to obviously buy the wrong player when we have the leverage to get it right though:
Lavia was the one the Manchester City fans were adamant should replace Fernandinho rather than buy Phillips.
Can see why now.
Lavia was the one regarded a really good prospect, hence why he cost twice as much as Gyabi and City stuck a buy back in.
We went for the cheaper option and then tried to convince ourselves we had got a real bargain despite the Man City forum members almost as one saying "who".
They'd almost all never heard of him.
They say hindsight is wonderful but Lavia was always regarded as the better prospect from reading the City forum.
We went for the cheaper option and hoped for the best.
Maybe Gyabi will become a star but he isn't even close to our first team it seems (didn't even get Cup minutes whilst Lavia is thriving in the Premier League.
Similar scenario with Lewis Bate and Tino Livramento last season at Chelsea.
One is on loan in League 1 (cheaper one we got) the other has shone in the Premier League.
