Cumming adds to selection dilemma
MANAGER Steve Evans says competition for places is currently so strong that he is spoilt for choice selecting a team for Saturday’s home game against newly promoted Chirk AAA.
Top of the table Seagulls go into the game with five wins, a draw and an impressive goal difference of +20 from their six league games so far, with 18 players having already had minutes on the pitch – and all have done well when called upon.
Ahead of Saturday’s game Craig Lindfield remains out with a foot injury but the manager is hopeful on August player of the month Alex Downes, who went off during the win over Mold Alex.
“Alex is a possibility for the weekend, maybe we won’t push it, but we’ll assess that on Thursday,” Steve reported.
“Other than that, everybody’s raring to go and the competition for places is there and I’ve got headaches.”
Steve was pleased with deadline day signing Jamie Cumming’s debut off the bench in Tuesday’s win at The Rock.
“He created two or three good chances for Matty (Hill), who took one of them at the end,” he said.
“He’s got quality, he’s an exciting player and it’s healthy competition for another position.”
Last season’s Ardal NE League Champions Chirk lost 1-0 to fellow newcomers Mold Alex in midweek and are 12th in the table, with only one win and four goals scored in their seven games.
But they have only conceded six and Steve commented: “I’ve been to watch them three times and they made it difficult for their opponents on all three occasions.
“They should have got three points on two of those occasions as well.
“We’re just going to look after ourselves and treat it like any other game, do the work and hopefully produce the performance that gives us the three points.”
