IWF Commits to Environmental Sustainability
The International Weightlifting Federation has joined the “United Nations Sports for Climate Action Framework” and “The Race to Zero” campaign signaling a strong commitment to environmental protection against climate change. The IWF has joined 300 other signatories from the sport sector that are committed to environmental sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint by working towards a 50% carbon emissions reduction by 2030 and Zero carbon emissions by 2040.
All participants in the “UN Sports for Climate Action Framework” commit to adhere to five principles addressing climate change:
- promoting greater environmental responsibility;
- reducing overall climate impact;
- educating for climate action;
- promoting sustainable and responsible consumption;
- advocating for climate action through communication.
To achieve success, the IWF will work collaboratively with relevant global stakeholders to develop and implement a new climate action agenda in all sectors of IWF activity.
