Georginio wins the TSG match-up
An unusual scenario occurred in Magdeburg on Friday. Rather than playing together as usual, Angelo Stiller and Georginio went head-to-head as the Germany and France U21s took each other on in a friendly. France and Georginio won the fixture, which comes nine months before the U21 European Championships, 1-0. Both Georginio and Stiller made the respective starting line-ups. Stiller even wore the captain's armband for the DFB XI.
Oliver Baumann was also on the end of a defeat. The goalkeeper was an unused substitute as the German national team lost 1-0 to Hungary in the Nations League. Fisnik Asllani had greater cause for celebration: the striker converted Maximilian Beier's assist after coming on as a substitute as the Germany U20 national team beat their Polish counterparts 2-1. Tom Bischof came on as a 67th-minute substitute as the Germany U18s won 2-0 against the USA youngsters.
Other TSG players had already been in action on Thursday. Thanks to a 2-1 victory over Denmark, TSG striker Andrej Kramarić's Croatia have moved up to top spot in the group and can be sure of a place in the Nations League final tournament if they can take all three points against Austria on Sunday. Kramarić was included in the starting XI against the Danes and played the opening 71 minutes.
Christoph Baumgartner, who will face Kramarić on Sunday, and Austria lost their Nations League clash with world champions France. The TSG midfielder came on as a 64th-minute substitute in place of Mainz's Onisiwo but could not prevent the 2-0 defeat.
Elsewhere, TSG defender Ozan Kabak was an unused substitute in Turkey's 3-3 draw with Luxembourg.
