‘Our captain’ – Henderson makes prediction about Harry Kane after penalty miss
Jordan Henderson has defended Harry Kane after his penalty miss against France, insisting that England would not be in the quarterfinal if not for the Tottenham man.
Kane was tasked with drawing England level twice from the penalty spot on Saturday against his club teammate Hugo Lloris.
While the 29-year-old stuck his first penalty into the top corner, he failed to hit the target with his second spot-kick in the 84th minute, which meant that the Three Lions bowed out of the World Cup.
Kane was extremely distraught after the final whistle and had to be consoled by several of his teammates.
In an interview with ITV after the defeat, the Tottenham man took responsibility for failing to execute his second penalty as he wanted, and insisted that he is proud of his teammates for the way they have performed in Qatar.
Henderson has now backed Kane to come through this experience stronger, and labelled him a ‘world-class striker’.
The Liverpool midfielder told ITV (9:12 pm, December 10, 2022) about the England captain’s penalty miss: “He will be stronger for it, in the long run, I am sure, but he is a world-class striker and our captain, and as I said, we wouldn’t be here without him.”

Even the greatest of players miss spot-kicks and Kane will be hurting more than anyone else at the miss. While I would normally be worried about how such a moment can affect a player mentally, I am not at all concerned about Kane as he has proven his mental strength time and again over the course of his career.
