Girlfriend accepts me cross-dressing but family won’t and I still feel embarrassed
DEAR DEIDRE: EVEN though my girlfriend knows about my cross-dressing I still feel very embarrassed.
I am 27 and my girlfriend is 26. We have been together for two years and we get on very well.
We are very much in love.
She doesn’t mind me dressing up at home, but I think about taking my life every night.
My family are very “old school” and if they found out I know I would lose all of them.
I don’t know what to do any more. I hate myself but at the same time I can’t stop it.

It is part of me, and yet it makes me feel so low.
I don’t even know why I am writing to you, but I just have nobody I can talk to about any of this.
MORE FROM DEAR DEIDRE
DEIDRE SAYS: Cross-dressing satisfies your need to express your feminine side.
You are not harming anyone and have no reason to be embarrassed.
It’s great that your girlfriend is supportive but there’s no need to tell your parents.
It would help you to explore why you hate this part of you.
It may be linked to the messages you received as a child.
If you could gain some self-acceptance these low feelings would ease.
My Cross-dressing support pack includes links for organisations who can help.
