Report: Spurs now the frontrunners to snap up 30-year-old defender
Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham have now emerged as the frontrunners to sign Inter Milan centre-back Stefan De Vrij in January.
The report states that Antonio Conte is keen on adding reinforcements to his backline and has identified De Vrij as a target. The Spurs head coach is alleged to have spoken to the centre-back about the possibility of reuniting at Tottenham in January.
It is explained that multiple clubs have enquired about the Netherlands international, whose current deal at the San Siro runs out in the summer, but it is Spurs and Atletico Madrid who looked the best poised to sign the player.
Football Insider add that De Vrij is looking ‘increasingly likely’ to leave Inter as the Serie A giants are yet to offer the defender a new contract despite telling him that they would do so.
It is explained that the Nerazzurri previously valued the former Lazio star at £40m but he could now be available for a knockdown price in January, owing to his contract situation.

Antonio Conte did seem to lose trust in Davinson Sanchez in the weeks before the mid-season break, with the Italian opting to move Dier to right centre-back and play Lenglet through the middle.
So, Sanchez and Tanganga could both potentially exit Tottenham in January, and it would come as no surprise if the North London club explore a move for De Vrij, given his contract situation and his relationship with Conte.
