Woman shot outside Antioch home dies at hospital
ANTIOCH — A woman was in custody in connection with an apparent fatal shooting between neighbors Tuesday, authorities said.
According to police, officers responded at 2:13 p.m. to a report of a possible shooting at a home in the 2200 block of Mandarin Way between Sycamore Drive and Mahogany Way, Antioch police Officer Ashley Crandell said.
When officers arrived, they found a woman victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the head, and provided care alongside Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters.
She was taken to a hospital and initially listed in critical condition, but was later pronounced dead. Her identity was not available, pending next-of-kin notification through the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s division.
A woman was taken into custody at the scene as a suspect in the shooting, but police did not preliminarily share a motive or any related circumstances.
At a press conference late Tuesday afternoon, Crandell said the incident apparently happened outside a home on between two neighbors, and that a firearm had been recovered from the scene.
