Woman, 80, dies after blaze rips through home despite fire fighters desperately trying to pull her to safety
AN 80-year-old woman has died after a fire engulfed a house in London early this morning.
Forty firefighters raced to the scene in Walthamstow, North East of the capital, at around 5.20am.
On arrival most of the ground floor and part of the first floor of the semi-detached home on Higham Hill Road was ablaze.
The elderly woman was pulled from the ground floor of the building by firefighters but was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Her next of kin have been informed.
The fire was under control by shortly after 7am.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation, but the Met Police say it is “not believed to be suspicious”.
“Officers will assist fire investigators as they carry out enquiries into the cause,” said Scotland Yard in a statement.
