Call the Midwife’s Helen George teases ‘stressful’ Trixie wedding ahead of series 12
CALL the Midwife star Helen George has teased details of Trixie and Matt’s wedding planning ahead season twelve.
Viewers saw Trixie receive a romantic surprise proposal during the episode on Christmas Day.
Matt had tried to do it on Christmas Day, only to be interrupted at the last moment. But on New Year’s Eve he finally had his moment as they overlooked the river.
Pulling out a stunning diamond ring, Matthew asked Trixie to spend the rest of her life with him as his wife, and the shocked nurse was eventually able to say yes.
Trixie is set to tie the knot in the upcoming twelfth season – but it won’t be smooth sailing.
Actress Helen, who plays Trixie, has teased what the next season entails as they plan for their big day.
Helen promised fiery scenes between the couple as they “row and tear into each other.”
She told Radio Times: “There’s a passion to them. It’s not a sedate relationship. It’s never going to be easy. They challenge each other, and I think that’s why it works so well.
“It’s a stressful occasion. And especially because he lives in Chelsea and the family has titles and there’s a lot that goes with that, so I think it’s a big occasion and a huge thing to plan.”
Referencing Trixie’s past engagement to Tom Hereward, Helen revealed: “I think it was interesting because it’s been such a lead up and had this wedding happened with another character years ago, then it would have been a different dress and a different occasion.
“But because of who he is, and because of how the wedding should be, the dress has to fit in with that as well, so it was a big conversation that took a few months.
“What’s lovely about the royal dresses is that they’re always very classic and I think that’s something that Trixie was going with.
“At one point I did find a picture of Cilla Black in a miniskirt with ostrich feathers on the Chelsea registry office steps and went, ‘Please, please.'”
Season 12 of Call the Midwife is set to see a new cast member come to Nonnatus House, with Rebecca Gethings playing Sister Veronica – who will definitely stir things up.
Fans were overjoyed for Trixie and her engagement and they can’t wait to see what’s next in store.
Taking to Twitter, one said: “Trixie has FINALLY got her happy ending.”
Another wrote: “Looking forward to the new series @CallTheMidwife1 & so happy for Trixie.”
A third penned: “I’m sobbing Trixie’s never deserved love more than it coming from Matthew! I’ve been waiting for this for 10 years.”
Call the Midwife’s new series begins Sunday at 8pm on BBC One.
