Winterwatch return date confirmed – but without popular presenter
WINTERWATCH fans have been left devastated by the absence of a popular presenter.
The hit show informs viewers about how animals cope and thrive in the changing weather, with hidden cameras and trackers recording some eye-opening moments.
The stories of this season will be revealed by presenters Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan will reveal the stories of the season.
They are shooting live for their second winter from Wild Ken Hill in Norfolk, whilst Iolo Williams and Gillian Burke will be in one of the UK’s greenest cities – Edinburgh.
However, former presenter Megan McCubbin, 27, will not appear on the series.
Megan has worked on the shows since 2020, often presenting alongside her stepdad Chris.
Last year, she made her Watch series debut during the spring and continued to present in autumn and winter.
Fans assumed she would be back for Autumnwatch 2022 because she also took part in this year’s Springwatch.
But, the 27-year-old didn’t appear in the opening episode, and she wasn’t mentioned by Chris during the instalment.
Even though she didn’t appear in Autumnwatch, Megan herself took to Twitter to wish the team good luck ahead of the show.
She tweeted: “Autumnwatch is back tonight on @bbctwo at 8pm!
“I’ll be watching the series and wanted to say a massive good luck to the @bbcspringwatch team, it’s going to be as epic as ever! Autumn is the most beautiful time of the year.”
Megan didn’t respond to the flood of questions about why she isn’t in the show – but her profile still states she works on the series.
Winterwatch 2023 will bring viewers two very different live wildlife hubs and stream live cameras across our
digital platforms.
Chris and Michaela will be exploring a whole host of wildlife.
Cameras will be trained on a very active wild badger set in the heart of Edinburgh Zoo whilst in England a multitude of live cameras will focus on the marshland and farmland of northwest Norfolk.
The remote thermal camera will be deployed to bring us incredible scenes, allowing us to watch the behaviour of Wild Ken Hill’s cast of nocturnal characters.
The stretch of Norfolk coastline is renowned for natural beauty but at this time of year it becomes more than that – for Atlantic Grey Seals – it’s a nursery.
The show follows the young seals as they develop from suckling pups into adventurous weaners diving headfirst into the water for the first time.
But a seal colony may not be as safe as it seems, males are on the prowl for mates and this is not good news for a new-born pup.
Will they all survive their first few weeks?
BBC Winterwatch returns to BBC Two from Tuesday 17th January at 8pm.
