San Leandro woman identified as New Year’s Eve flood victim
According to news reports, one of several New Year’s Eve storm-related deaths this week was identified as a San Leandro woman.
On Thursday, the Sacramento Bee reported that the daughter-in-law of Mei Keng Lam, 57, “said on Instagram that she went missing during the storm on New Year’s Eve; she said the family had tried tracking her phone, which gave them a location near Elk Grove, and the phone lost signal after that.”
According to ABC 10, Cosumnes Fire Department firefighters found her body around 10:30 a.m. Sunday near her car close to Dillard Road in Sacramento County off Highway 99. After a helicopter saw the car, crews used a boat to reach it and recover her body.
Officials had closed Dillard Road and Highway 99 after rains from last weekend’s atmospheric river storm led the river to breach a nearby levee.
The Sacramento County coroner’s office did not immediately return a call Thursday evening seeking confirmation of the death.
