Monster stepdad admits killing and torturing ‘beautiful & innocent’ girl, 5, after she died from horrific injuries
A GRISLY stepdad will be behind bars for life after he admitted to killing and torturing a five-year-old girl.
Abdul Wahab has been on trial for the accused murder of his stepdaughter, Nadia Zofia Kalinowska, who was found dead at the family home in Newtonabbey in 2019.
Both Abdul, 34, and his partner, Aleksandra Wahab, 28, went on trial on Wednesday at Belfast Crown Court, accused of murder.
However, today Abdul Wahab pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Pakistani national also pleaded guilty to two charges of grievous bodily harm with intent.
One case happened 24 hours before the child’s death and the other on an occasion between July and December in 2019.
Mr Justice O’Hara, the judge, said a minimum period before he could be released would be set at a future date.
During the trial, the court heard the schoolgirl was tortured and killed in her home – a place where she should have felt safe.
Crown barrister Liam McCollum detailed the injuries inflicted on Nadia.
The five-year-old girl suffered a skull fracture and lacerated liver which caused her death.
Nadia also sustained fractures to her ribs, collarbone, pelvis, a bowel injury as well as 70 surface injuries including bruising and abrasions.
The Crown concluded Nadia had been subjected to a campaign of physical abuse in the family home which culminated in her death.
On Thursday, barristers for both Mr and Mrs Wahab asked that their clients be re-arraigned.
At this point, Abdul Wahab bowed his head and tearfully pleaded guilty to the murder.
Aleksandra Wahab pleaded guilty to allowing the death of a child and allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm.
These pleas were accepted by the court and the jury was discharged.
She was remanded back into custody.
Judge O’Hara said as both defendants had now pleaded guilty to three charges each, he directed them to return not guilty verdicts on all the remaining counts.
