I bought £490 iPad on Amazon for my baby boy – I was horrified when I opened the package
A MUM paid £490 for a new iPad but was horrified to receive products worth under a fiver instead.
Georgia Ellis, 24, splashed out on a Christmas present for her son Teddy.
However, when it arrived, she found only four bars of soap and a packet of Cup-A-Soup.
The hairdresser, currently on maternity leave bought the tablet to keep her son occupied on long car journeys.
But she couldn’t believe it when after taking the package from the driver and opening it to discover both the iPad and the products weren’t there.
She said: “At first I thought, ‘ok wow, I got a bonus gift!’ Then I realised that the iPad wasn’t there. I couldn’t believe it.
“This happened two weeks ago when the delivery driver came by, handed the package over.
“I reckon it was someone in Amazon or someone along the way that put the other stuff in the box because it’s the correct weight for the iPad.
“I’ve emailed multiple times asking for a refund or for them but they’ve refused and told me to go to the police.
“The police said they’d look into it but they can’t really do anything because I opened the parcel and I didn’t video it, apparently.
“Who accepts a parcel and opens it in front of the delivery driver to check it?
“Who takes a video for when they’re opening a parcel?
“I sent the soup and soap back because they said if I sent the products back I’d get a refund, but when I did they said that it’s not the iPad so we can’t refund you, and I said, ‘but that’s what was given to me’!”
Georgia, from Hertfordshire, added: “I’m devastated. I feel like I’ve been scammed. I saved up for it and I can’t afford to buy a new one.
“I’m now stuck paying for this on instalments and I didn’t even receive it. I’m on maternity leave and I saved up Christmas money as a present for my son.
“I contacted the third party seller who sold it through Amazon and they’ve said they sent the correct product to Amazon.
“No one’s owning up to anything. I think they believe it’s me?
“I took pictures when I first opened it but not a video.”
Georgia said despite being an Amazon customer for years, she will not use them again.
“When I can afford another iPad I’ll just go straight to Apple,” she said.
“I won’t use Amazon again especially for big products like that.”
Online shopping is booming, with sales soaring 63 per cent in 2021, according to Barclaycard.
But a survey of more than 2,000 Brits by Ofcom found nearly two-thirds (64%) had suffered problems with parcel deliveries.
After being contacted by The Sun, Amazon issued a refund to Georgia.
A spokesperson said: “We’ve contacted the customer directly, apologised and processed a full refund.”
