Acura Finish The First Day Of The Roar One-Two In GTP

0

Trouble again for the #6 Porsche, pace again from the Acuras and close again in GTD as the Roar before the Rolex 24 test made its way through the second session, one hour and 45 minutes with the first 15 minutes devoted to the Pro-Am classes and the final 15 minutes with the two all-Pro classes with an opportunity to stretch their metaphorical legs.

That relatively quiet track gave Helio Castroneves the opportunity to post a lap time of 1:35.210 in the #60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX 06 good enough to edge out the other Acura, the #10 Konica Minolta car that had led much of the session in the hands of Filipe Albuquerque (1:35.320).

Fastest of the Cadillacs was the #01 in the hands of Scott Dixon, a quarter of a second off the #60s best with the quicker of the two Porsche’s, the #7 still in the 1:35s.

The #6 Porsche meanwhile, that had been in trouble in the morning with a rear suspension issue, again had issues with a left front wheel bearing problem that again cost valuable track time.

The Porsche Penske Team did however get the car back out in the final minutes of the session with Nick Tandy posting a time good enough for eighth fastest in the session and ahead of the other troubled GTP of the day, the #31 Action Express Cadillac.

Mikkel Jensen topped LMP2 in the #11 TDS Racing Oreca 07 Gibson with a 1:38.730, again comfortably off the pace of even the slowest of the GTPs. Matthieu Vaxiviere and Ben Keating were both over half a second back in the #88 AF Corse and #52 PR1 Mathiesen cars respectively.

Gabby Chaves topped LMP3 in the #36 Andretti Autosport Ligier JS P320 with a 1:42.926, four tenths up on Joao Barbosa in the #33 Sean Creech Motorsport Ligier with Felipe Fraga just a hundredth or two further back in the #74 Riley Ligier.

After the Aston Martin-fest of the morning session, Fabian Schiller put the #75 SunEnergy1 Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo on top of the combined GTD and GTD Pro order, his 1:47.020 just enough to pip the fastest GTD Pro car, this the #14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 of Ben Barnicoat

Third fastest was the other Lexus, the #12 GTD class entry in the hands of Parker Thomson, just half a tenth further back whilst Nicki Thiim put the Magnis Racigj Aston Martin fourth in the overall GTD order.

Day two sees three track sessions.
