The incident for the #3 Corvette at the end of the first test session that brought out the red flags was explained post-session as contact with the wall at the Le Mans chicane, the root cause though was altogether more dramatic, Jordan Taylor suffering the heart-stopping experience of the steering wheel of the C8.R coming off in his hands.
Taylor later confirmed the incident to DSC and added that the team were confident that the root cause had been identified and dealt with.
“There’s no question of me not being confident to get back in the car, we’re ready to go for the second session.”
The #6 Porsche 963 GTP is understood to have suffered a rear suspension failure in the session this morning too.
Having missed the first session of the test the #62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 296 GT3 is ready to go for the second session.
Magnus Racing have a new race strategist for the 2023 Rolex 24 Hours with the return to the team of their ex-publicist and co-host of the Dinner with Racers podcast, Sean Heckman in a new and altogether more responsible role!
2022 ELMS LMP3 Champion Maurice ‘Mo’ Smith’s enjoying a roam around the Daytona paddock and enjoyed a chat with his 2022 team manager Nico Lapierre. Mo will be taking a racing sabbatical in 2023 before considering a return thereafter.
Also enjoying the sunshine and managing to hide his frustration about not being involved in the race very well was Tristan Vautier, the Frenchman looks set for a role in the JDC Miller Porsche 963 GTP effort when it makes its debut later in the season, with the delivery of the car still described somewhat less than precisely as ‘In April!.
Michael Shank told DSC at the December GTP test that he was due to the delivery of a somewhat impressive new pit tower.
“The Beast” is now on-site at Daytona* and is indeed a literal step up from the team’s previous set-up.
*The Beast is meant to describe the pit stand and not the team owner!
