Young Queen’s Park were up against a strong and experienced FC Edinburgh team today at Lochinch and it showed. FC Edinburgh controlled the game right from the kick off. Queen’s were finding it hard to get out of their half in the opening ten minutes.
Callan McKenna had to look lively to push a shot away for a corner in the 11th minute.
Queen’s did begin to get more of the ball and in the 22nd minute a great through ball saw Lennon Connolly through on goal. Unfortunately for Lennon the City keeper blocked his shot.
This attack fired the young Spiders and Aaron Healy began to get more of the ball and cause the FC Edinburgh defence problems down the left wing. Queen’s passing through the middle was excellent, it was just that final pass that was missing.
In the 35th minute FC Edinburgh opened the scoring. A long clearance by their keeper was picked up in midfield and a series of quick passes allowed their striker to hit a superb shot past Callan McKenna into the corner of the net from 18 yards out.
Queen’s pushed to get back on level terms but the well organised FC Edinburgh defence restricted Queen’s to long range efforts.
In the 37th minute Lewis Reid beat three players before playing the ball to Calum Biggar who took one touch and fired in a shot from the edge of the box. Unfortunately the ball sailed high over the bar.
