India’s leadership essential in fractured world: WEF Chief
World Economic Forum said its annual meeting is taking place at a time when multiple crises have deepened divisions and fragmented the geopolitical landscape.
The founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF), Klaus Schwab, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in a divided world and said India is a bright spot amid the global crisis.
“I had the pleasure of meeting the Indian ministerial delegation and many of its top business leaders,” Schwab said.
“I commend the country’s decisive action on the climate case for renewables, its contribution to the global healthcare ecosystem, the focus on an economic model for women-led development, and its leadership on digital public infrastructure. India remains a bright spot amid global geoeconomics and geopolitical crises,” he added.
The WEF expressed its appreciation for India’s nearly 40 years of cooperative experience in a separate statement. It anticipated preserving such connection while Prime Minister Modi’s country holds the G20 chair.
This comes amid the report by IMF indicating that India is better off than many global economies. The document stated that India’s growth rate is 6.8 % for the current fiscal year, while 6.1 for the following financial year has been estimated.
Another document by EY stated that India’s GDP would reach $26 trillion, and its per capita income would earn $15 000 by 2047, firmly placing it among the developed countries, the report added.
The WEF also declared that governments and corporations must meet the people’s urgent requirements by the end of the present decade while considering the foundation for a more sustainable and resilient society.
