Highlights India vs New Zealand 3rd ODI and Updates: Rohit Sharma-led Team India defeated Tom Latham’s New Zealand by 90 runs in the third and final ODI at the Holkar Stadium, Indore and earned a 3-0 clean sweep victory.
The Men in Blue have now reclaimed the number 1 spot in the ICC ODI Rankings with 3-0 series win. They batting first put 385 on board and then bowled out NZ on 295 runs.
Tom Latham won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, the decision didn’t look much great as Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill joined another 100 runs opening stand. They joined 165 runs in the first 20 overs.
Both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill completed their respective centuries. Rohit smashed his 30th ODI ton and Gill his 4th one. They joined a massive opening partnership of 212 runs. However, Bracewell dismissed Rohit on 101 runs and the Tickner sent Gill back on 112 runs and brought NZ back into the game.
Team India kept on losing wickets from then on and NZ’s bowling made a great comeback. Virat Kohli did smash 36 runs and progressed the scoreboard for a while but New Zealand’s bowlers managed to capitalise on the opening they received.
It seemed as if India might not be able to put a good total on the scoreboard despite 200 plus opening stand. Then came Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur. Their 54 runs partnership helped Team India reach a massive total. Hardik completed his fifty and helped India put 385 runs on the scoreboard at the loss of 9 wickets
NZ had a target of 386 runs in front of them and they lost the wicket of Finn Allen in the second ball of their innings itself to the Indian vice-captain Hardik Pandya.
However, Devon Conway and Henry Nichols joined a good partnership and helped their side recover from an early blow. They even joined 73 runs in the batting powerplay and a partnership of 106 runs. However, Rohit brought in Kuldeep Yadav and provided the breakthrough by dismissing Nicholls on 42 runs.
Devon Conway completed his century after that and kept on progressing the scoreboard with Daryl Mitchell. Although Shardul Thakur strikes twice in two consecutive balls and sent Dary Mitchell and NZ skipper Tom Latham back and brought India back in game. He then dismissed Glenn Phillips in his next over and turned the tables completely on New Zealand.
Conway was leading the team from one end but Umran dismissed him after a glorious knock of 138 runs and took the match completely in India’s side. The rest was done by the spin duo ‘Kul-Cha’ who grabbed the remaining four wickets of the match and bowled out NZ on 295 runs
