Diana Tom ‘went out of her way to give to others,’ family says

Diana Tom clung to life for 24 hours at LAC+USC Medical Center before becoming the 11th casualty in the mass shooting in Monterey Park.

She died from critical injuries on Sunday, Jan. 22.

Tom, a former pharmacy technician, always went out of her way to give to others, said family members via a statement.

And, as it was with the 10 others who lost their lives in the senseless crime, her final act was doing something joyful. Tom, 70, spent the evening of Jan. 21 celebrating the Lunar New Year by dancing with her friends.

“Diana was a hard-working mother, wife and grandmother who loved to dance,” read the statement.

A distant relative, Chloe Hsai, wrote on Facebook that the Monterey Park victims are “our aunts, uncles, grandparents, moms, dads, neighbors and friends.

“Keep dancing in heaven, Auntie Diana,” wrote Hsai, who then listed the 10 other people who were killed.

The family, in their statement, condemned the senseless act of violence that has “uprooted the lives of all their families and the entire API community at large.”
