Corrie’s Jack P Shepherd slammed by fans for riding horse drawn cart on holiday
JACK P Shepherd has come under fire from fans for riding a horse drawn cart while on holiday.
The Corrie actor, 35, and his partner Hanni Treweek shared pictures and a video as they checked out the sights of Krakow, Poland – but a number of people were concerned for the animals’ welfare.
One upset follower wrote under Jack’s picture: “Hope the horse didn’t suffer.”
Another person commented: “Those horses looked like they were suffering when I was there over the weekend. Animal cruelty.”
PETA’s Vice President of Programmes Elisa Allen also wrote to Jack about riding the horse and cart.
She told The Sun: “Many unwitting travellers, apparently including Shepherd, haven’t a clue that taking a horse-drawn carriage ride supports a trade in which animals suffer greatly.
“PETA is writing to him to let him know that these beleaguered horses toiling for tourists are forced to pull heavy carts in all weather, inhale car exhaust, become involved in ugly collisions, and are commonly neglected when ill or injured.
“PETA calls on all cities that still allow these archaic rides to follow the lead of Palma, Mallorca, which recently passed a motion to replace them with modern, eco-friendly electric carriages, and begs tourists to vote with their wallets by choosing a kinder way to explore a city.”
Meanwhile, others weren’t so concerned and rushed to tell Jack – who is best known for playing David Platt – how great his trip look.
Jack revealed he had travelled there to celebrate his birthday with Hanni and a friend.
One person wrote: “Best place to spend your birthday #Poland #Polska ”
And a second added: “A birthday you will never forget.”
