Laura Whitmore reveals new TV show after leaving Love Island as sneak preview shown on The One Show
LAURA Whitmore’s brand new TV role after leaving Love Island was revealed on tonight’s episode of The One Show.
The presenter will star in her husband Iain Stirling’s sitcom Buffering.
Laura, 37, stepped down from her presenter role on Love Island shortly after season eight wrapped up in August last year.
This evening on The One Show it was revealed that Laura will be back on our screens very soon as a character on the ITV2 comedy.
Iain, 34, appeared on the BBC programme to chat a little bit about what viewers can expect, and a preview of Laura in her new role played out.
Speaking about working with his wife, Iain told hosts Alex Jones, 45, and Jermaine Jenas, 39: “The great thing about doing a comedy I guess is, it’s a collaborative effort so everyone was chucking in ideas.
“Laura’s such a naturally funny person so she definitely helped with the character, fleshed it out.
“We sort of gave her the skeleton and she built it into this monster really! Quite a scary individual. The character.”
Talking about his upcoming series of the ITV2 comedy, Iain said: “
Buffering, which premiered in 2021, will return on Monday 30th January.
Speaking about the show, Iain explained about his character: “He’s a kid’s TV presenter and he can’t stand children.
“He sort of thinks he’s destined for better things, he’s gone to move on and it’s backfired horribly.
“He’s stuck back in the kid’s TV world and wondering, he’s approaching 30, which I have approached in real life, and wondering where his life is at and not got the dream job and why he’s not grown up and settled down.”
Laura announced that she would no longer be hosting Love Island in August last year.
n a statement on Instagram, the presenter said that she found elements of the production “very difficult”.
“Some news!” she wrote. “I won’t be hosting the next series of Love island. There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects.
“I wish it was still possible but know you’ll be in safe hands.
“I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series. I hope I did you proud Caroline.”
Laura has got a very busy year ahead.
Fans can still watch her in various projects including a true crime podcast with her husband.
She has also joined the 2:22 A Ghost story cast in London’s West End and is filming her own documentary series Laura Whitmore Investigates which will air sometime this year.
In October 2022, it was revealed that Maya Jama is the new host of Love Island.
