I was fired from The Apprentice and it was so intense I felt like I was in the army – here’s what was cut from screens
A CANDIDATE who was fired from The Apprentice has compared the show to being like the army.
During the most recent instalment of the business programme on BBC One, viewers watched as Lord Sugar sacked another contestant.
At the end of the episode Mark Moseley became the latest to face the wrath of the business tycoon.
Now, following his elimination the 39-year-old pest control businessman has revealed he didn’t expect the show to be tough.
He said: “You see a lot of confusion when you watch at home, but I think you need to keep a cool head in pressurised situations.
“In some ways it’s like being in the military. Trying to keep a cool head and organise everything while there’s tracer fire going over your head, trying to run down in the trenches.
“If I was going to compare it, Lord Sugar would be a General that you do not want to get on the wrong side of with Baroness Brady and Tim as the two Colonels; they’re great but they don’t muck around either.”
When pressed on how similar the boardroom is compared to the military, the former soldier said there is a crossover.
“Obviously, it’s not a life-or-death situation like it is in the military, but you certainly are on edge a lot,” he said.
“Having Lord Sugar staring at you and wondering if that finger is going to be coming over your way on a task, it’s hair-raising.”
During his time in the forces, Mark was sent to Kenya for six months and he also did tours of Afghanistan.
The businessman has also revealed how some memorable moments didn’t make it into the programme.
He recalled how a moment between him and Victoria while they were on a task in Dubai led to laughter erupting between the cast and crew.
“I remember Victoria coming down from the top deck saying “Mark, how fresh are these oysters? The customer wants to know” and I said, “As fresh as they come” and she asked, “Where did you get them from?” and I said “…the ocean!” We all burst out laughing, the crew did too.”
He expressed regret at another scene from his final task also not making it screens.
He explained: “You see me taking a payment and there’s a pool table behind us, there were six pool balls on the table, and I said to the business owner, “If I pot all those pool balls in one shot each, you up the ticket price to £70” and I potted five of the six balls.
“I missed the black, it rattled in the drawer.”
The Apprentice, Thursdays on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
