I’m a plus-size gym girl – I get so nervous about men watching me, I know I’m a cute thick Latina
A PLUS-SIZE content creator has conquered her fears and has finally taken up space in the gym.
Any inhibitions she may have had are now well and truly dispelled and she couldn’t be prouder.
But it has been hard to take those initial steps over the threshold because, like many plus-size women, Karen (@callherkarenbby) feared judgment and unkind comments about her body shape.
She shared her experience on her platform and thousands related to it, with over 39,000 likes and hundreds of comments.
Wearing black workout gear, Karen filmed herself at the gym.
“I’m not your typical fitness body type but I’m taking up the space in the gym,” she asserted.
She admitted to some nerves though: “Got anxious going to the gym because I’m a plus-size girl.”
But she was on a mission and was not going to give up – she was doing this for the team.
She carried on and hoped her confidence would kick in.
Pumping iron she captioned her post: “Getting over my gym anxiety. I was freaking out. I set up my tripod I was so nervous.”
Karen was particularly gutsy because 98% of the gym goers at her gym were men.
Of course, she felt intimidated, she said but did it anyway.
“And here’s me, a cute, thick Latina round the corner, set up her tripod,” she said.
“I’ve got the angle, I’m taking up space as a big girl and I’m hot, that’s it, that’s the message.”
Her followers just loved her post and it inspired many to also overcome their fears too.
To one fan who said she was too shy to go the gym alone, she said, you just got to dive in head first.
One fan made a comment: “Those boys are more scared of you, trust me.”
“No shame ever. Take all the space,” agreed another.
“You are amazing. Love your energy,” said this fan.
Finally, maybe there was a reason the guys were staring, said one viewer: “Girl they’re looking at you because you’re their gym crush.”
