Transformer explosion lights up sky during Illinois ice storm

A bright-orange transformer explosion turned the night sky over Crystal Lake, Illinois, into a scene out of “The X-Files.” A tree had fallen on the electrical site during an ice storm that left thousands in the Prairie State without power.
