4NCL (Nations Chess League)
Tues 21st Feb 23 – 7:30pm
Season 7 – Round 3
Time-Controls – 45 minutes + 15 seconds increments
Dundee City teams are a joint venture between Castlehill Chess Club Dundee and Dundee Chess Club.
A mixed bag of results in round 3 with 3 of our teams winning, 1 drawing and 3 losing, most unusual!
Div 1 – Group B
Hackney Heffalumps (2170) 2 – 2 (2260) Dundee City A
A tough match with our two top boards especially finding it hard work! But our two bottom boards saved the day and our “A” team’s title hopes!
Div 1 – Group A
Hackney Thirsty (1855) ½ – 3½ (2102) Dundee City B
While no win is ever comfortable, this was as good as it gets result wise for Dundee City B!
Div 3 – Group A
Dundee City C (1924) 2 – 1 (1621) Hackney Hackers
A match with a twist after the board 4 game was null & void (0 – 0) after a technical hitch which caught both players, and helpers out despite their best intentions! You just never know when playing online chess what can happen! This meant only 3 of the 4 boards counted, which luckily went the way of Dundee City C!
Div 3 – Group B
Deaf England (1441) ½ – 3½ (1855) Dundee City D
Dundee City D team made sure they were not going to be the “fall guy” in this potential banana skin match against players who always play above their posted grades!
Div 4 – Group A
Heffalump Hunters(1931) 4 – 0 (1627) Dundee City E
“Hunted“, check! “Caught“, check! “Lumps taking out of“, check! A “Heffa” defeat! Almost an Angela Lansbury, murder she wrote episode!
We will be back!
Div 5 (Swiss)
Dundee City F (1581) 1½ – 2½ (1287) Lenzie Dementors
Congratulations and well played Lenzie Dementors! They cast their spells and the Dundee City F muggles were a bit “wand” less! No “Expecto Patronum” get out of jail spell this time!
Dundee City G (1392) 1 – 3 (1363) Telepost Dark Knights 2
This grading wise was a close match, but the Dark Knights, “Kapowed” the living daylights out of Dundee City G team, with a super hero performance! Well played!
We are still looking for that holy grail of 7 teams, 7 wins! Four rounds left to do just that!
