Panthers G Spencer Knight placed in assistance program

Florida Panthers goaltender Spencer Knight has been placed in the NHL/NHL Players' Association player assistance program, the league said in a statement Friday.

No reason was given for Knight's placement in the program, with the third-year player demoted to Charlotte of the AHL on Thursday. Knight, 21, will be unavailable to the Panthers "for an indefinite period," according to the NHL.
