Cristian Stellini explains Conte phone call and when Spurs boss will return
Tottenham Hotspur assistant head coach, Cristian Stellini, has confirmed that Antonio Conte will return to Hotspur Way sometime in the next week to resume his duties.
Stellini and Ryan Mason have stepped up in the absence of the Italian head coach following his gallbladder surgery and subsequent recovery, winning all three Premier League matches.
The victories at home to Man City, West Ham, and Chelsea follow Stellini’s other win as Spurs manager in the Champions League against Marseille, meaning he boasts a rather impressive 100 per cent record.
Conte’s assistant revealed that the manager called him immediately after the 2-0 win over Chelsea this afternoon, with goals from Oliver Skipp and Harry Kane sealing all three points for the Lilywhites.
When asked if Conte would be back in time to take charge of the FA Cup match against Sheffield United, Stellini was unable to confirm. Although, he did predict that Conte would be back sometime in the next week.
He said (Football London): “Yes, Antonio called immediately, straight after the game.
“He was really happy because he has suffered a lot, but now is week Antonio is back so we are happy for the win, we are happy for that and we have to give many compliments to the players because they played a great match.”
Asked if Conte would be back for the FA Cup match, he added: “This is the only thing I don’t know. My feeling is he will be back this week but I don’t know when.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
The FA Cup match is a game Spurs should win. If they walk away with a loss, it won’t be because Antonio Conte wasn’t there, it will be because the players were not good enough on the day. It makes more sense for him to rest up for the remainder of the week, in my opinion.
