Opinion: Tottenham player ratings from the 2-0 win over Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur finally managed to put the Chelsea curse behind them this afternoon in North London as they put two past Graham Potter’s men without reply.
Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:
Fraser Forster – 7 – Just solid today. Made a couple of decent stops when he needed to. Claimed balls confidently out of the air. A really important dive at the feet of Havertz too.
Emerson Royal – 8 – Picked up where he left off. A constant driving force down the right side, albeit without too much potency at the end today. Very solid at the back too, giving the best of both worlds.
Cristian Romero – 9 – The very best of Romero today. He is both the rock and the hard place for attackers at times. Some crunching challenges and delightful play with the ball at his feet today, always just staying the right side of the line. Perfect performance.
Eric Dier – 8 – Very impressive in the second half as he stepped out and tried to prevent Joao Felix from turning on the ball as much. Dominant on the ground and in the air, including his assist for Kane’s goal from the corner.
Clement Lenglet – 7.5 – I thought he was a little too safe with the ball at his feet at times in the first 45 but he really grew into the game and was a great outlet when passing out from the back in the second half.
Ben Davies – 8 – Gives you a lot more solidity down the left than Ivan Perisic, and still managed to at least offer an option going forward, albeit less dynamic. Could have grabbed a goal if Kane had found him with a chip across the box in the second half.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 8 – Really stepping up since Bentancur’s injury. He knows he has to be extremely mature and disciplined with a less experienced partner, and he did just that today. Very neat and tidy, both on and off the ball.
Oliver Skipp – 8.5 – What a hit! That’s not a bad way to get off the mark for Tottenham! Skipp was fantastic off the ball today when tackling and turning over possession. Can be a little untidy at times on the ball but he is definitely improving that aspect of his game.
Dejan Kulusevski – 7.5 – He may not be grabbing games by the scruff of their neck as much in 2023, but Deki is still capable of bursts of incredible talent. If he can get the consistency back up again, the Spurs attack is going to be deadly.
Harry Kane – 8 – A disciplined performance today. Kane played more as an out-and-out number nine and did well to hold the ball up and bring others into play. Only really had one big chance in the game and he stroked it home expertly.
Richarlison – 7.5 – It didn’t quite happen for him today but it wasn’t for a lack of trying. This guy got through an incredible workload! Both offensively with his pressing and defensively with his tracking back, he was a real asset. Just hope he gets his goal soon.
Subs:
Heung-min Son – 7 – Came off the bench to create the second goal from his corner delivery.
Pedro Porro – N/A
