Journalist claims 23-year-old will now struggle to ‘get a look in’ at Spurs
Journalist Dean Jones has argued that Pedro Porro will struggle to get to any minutes at Tottenham if Emerson Royal continues his current vein of form.
When Spurs agreed to pay a loan fee of £5m to Sporting Libson along with an obligation to buy Porro for an additional £39m (Sky Sports), most Tottenham fans would have expected the Spaniard to be thrown straight into the starting eleven.
However, Emerson has deservedly kept the new signing out of the team, with the Brazilian arguably being the best player on the pitch in both of his starts against Manchester City and West Ham United.
After the 23-year-old’s Man of the Match performance against the Hammers, Cristian Stellini was asked if Emerson’s resurgence was down to Porro’s arrival but the Italian dismissed that suggestion, insisting that the former Real Betis man was also playing well at the start of the season (Football.London).
Jones has now pointed out that Emerson’s upturn in form started before Porro arrived through the door on transfer deadline day.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “At the moment, Porro is going to struggle to get a look in. But, to be honest, this form of Emerson Royal was visible even before he actually arrived at the club.”

This is an excellent problem for Conte and his coaching staff to have and there is no doubt that Emerson is fully deserving of his place in the side at the moment.
If Porro does not get too many opportunities this season, that will be good news for Spurs as it would mean that the Brazilian is continuing to shine.
